Cold weather might make going outside a challenge, but it’s not impossible! Blow away the cobwebs with some of our top tips for getting off the couch and outside this winter.
Why bother? Being outdoors is great for fresh air and natural light. It can also help regulate your sleep patterns and improve general well-being.1https://www.apa.org/monitor/2020/04/nurtured-nature
So here are some simple way to get going!
1. Get your puddle-jumping shoes
One of the most important things you can do is invest in some proper winter attire. Make sure you’re well equipped with thermals, scarf and gloves, and those water-proof shoes! New clothing items dedicated for braving the cold weather can be a BIG motivator to get outdoors.
2. Go for a walk with your friends
Combine exercise and socialising! Everyone needs a little nudge to get them outdoors; phone a friend and invite them to come with you. The serotonin you get from meeting up with others is a great mood booster at this time of year.
3. Prepare your garden for spring
It’s time to protect your garden from the cold and get ready for springtime! This is a good chance to remove the weeds and add mulch for protection.2https://www.apa.org/monitor/2020/04/nurtured-nature Spending time in the garden is also great for your body – adding diversity to the garden inside your gut!3https://www.marshalls.co.uk/gardens-and-driveways/blog/how-to-prepare-your-garden-for-winter
4. Stroll around town with a hot chocolate
Christmas markets are another good excuse to spend time outdoors this winter. Take advantage of a hot drink to warm up your hands as you walk along.
5. Embrace the weather
Your mindset is a powerful tool. Think of challenging weather as an opportunity to get out of your comfort zone.
Is it snowing? Great weather for a snow angel!
Is it raining? Time to put on your raincoat…
Is it frosty? Enjoy the patterns made by the frost on trees and seed heads.
Remember, there’s no bad weather, only bad clothing! Wrap up warmly and lean into the challenge of winter weather.
