Summer’s in full swing, and the best moments are just a sip away! This means day trips to the beach, melty ice creams, barbeques in the park, festival season and of course, cocktails in the garden.
As more people embrace alcohol-free living through initiatives like Dry January, Sober September, or simply choosing not to drink, mocktails are having a well-deserved moment. With the August bank holiday weekend fast approaching, and hopes for sunny weather, this is a perfect time to whip up a glass (or pitcher) of something a little bit different!
Here are three quick and easy mocktail recipes that taste amazing, use seasonal summer fruits, and are good for you!
1. Strawberry mojito
Strawberries, cherries and raspberries are synonymous with the British summer time and perfect for fruity mocktails. Strawberry season is nearly wrapped up, but there’s still time to grab the last few juicy berries and bring out their delicious flavour with this sweet, refreshing strawberry mojito. A handful of strawberries is a great source of vitamin C, manganese, folate (vitamin B9), and other essential vitamins. They’re also a good source of fibre, which is crucial for feeding the friendly bacteria in your gut and supporting digestive health.
Ingredients
Makes 1 serving / Triple recipe for pitcher size.
- 5 strawberries, fresh or frozen
- 5 fresh mint leaves
- 1 TBSP fresh lime juice
- 1 TBSP sugar or sweetener of choice
- Top up with soda water
- Extra mint and strawberries to serve
- *Optional – a small splash of our Vinegar 1 to add a peppery hint.
Method
- Dice the strawberries then mash together with the sugar/sweetener in a glass to release the juices. Try to get the strawberry pieces small enough to fit through a straw. You can use a blender for this step if preferred.
- Add in the fresh lime juice and stir to combine.
- Tear a couple of the mint leaves and mash down into the strawberry mix to help release the flavour.
- Fill the glass with ice and add soda water. Stir to combine.
- Garnish with extra mint, slices of lime, and strawberry slices.
* Adding a small splash of vinegar enhances the taste, pairing the sweetness of the strawberries with the peppery notes of the vinegar. Our vinegars also pack a powerful antimicrobial and antibacterial punch. Discover the power of our vinegars here.
2. Watermelon and lime ice cooler
This sweet and tangy mocktail is great for lazing in the shade on a sunny afternoon. Double the recipe to make a pitcher that can be served at a BBQ or garden party. The sweet watermelon adds a taste of summer, while the lime gives it a citrus kick. The addition of kombucha to the recipe gives this cocktail an extra tang, while also giving you a boost of probiotic goodness!
As this recipe includes kombucha, it may contain a small amount of alcohol, typically around 0.5% in commercially bought brands. Homemade kombucha may have higher levels. To make this recipe completely alcohol-free, simply swap the kombucha for more soda water.
Ingredients
- 400 g or half a small watermelon, diced into chunks
- 1 fresh lime
- 500 ml soda water
- 250 ml kombucha
- 10 mint leaves
- Plenty of ice
Method
- Cut the watermelon in half, removing the rind and any seeds. Dice into cubes roughly 1 inch squares. Place into the freezer for around an hour.
- Cut the lime in half width ways, then cut thin round slices from the middle and place aside to use as garnish for later.
- Squeeze the lime into a cup to collect the juice, making sure not to get any pips.
- Remove the watermelon from the freezer and place into a blender. Add in the lime juice, soda water and kombucha and mix.
- Pour into glass or pitcher, add in lots of ice and the garnish and serve.
3. Iced tea
What’s more relaxing than a tall glass of iced tea on a hot afternoon? Chuckling Goat teas are perfect as a cosy hot drink on a cold, rainy evening. They also work great poured over ice and mixed with some fruit and served as a pitcher.
Ingredients
